Mark Spitz and Bob Jamison of Santa Clara each won a pair of events as the Panthers raced to an easy team victory over runner-up Los Altos in the first Central Coast Section boys' swimming championships.  Ralph Hutton was a double winner for Los Altos.  All times were meet records.

Mark Spitz set a national high school record in the 200 freestyle and helped his  Santa Clara teammates record another mark in the 400 freestyle relay as the  Panthers took their third consecutive team title.  Spitz set an American record in the 100 freestyle.

Panthers to their annual victory, winning 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke in national record times.  The 500 freestyle race replaced the 400

title to break the record of 12 in-a-row set by Santa Clara from 1966 through 1977.
The Bells' Rob Canales won the 100 breast stroke and 200 IM, setting a record in
the latter event. Leffie Crawford of Serra set a new mark in the 50 freestyle.
